Description

This book argues that civil society, by which we mean associations, interest groups and the employers’ and union organisations, is an essential pillar of democracy. During meetings with representatives of organised civil society, the writer has gathered a series of examples of how they have made their voices heard in the EU. Based on these examples and other interviews, this book provides concrete tips on how European leadership and civil society can fully benefit from one another, creating a stronger sense of European identity for citizens and giving the institutions greater legitimacy, as their decision-making becomes more rooted in citizens’ real daily concerns.
